About the Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers got their start in LA before moving to San Diego and returning to the City of Angels back in 2017. They are one of two Los Angeles teams, sharing the city with the Rams.

The Chargers would likely admit that they underachieved last season when they finished 5-12 and last place in the AFC West. The Chargers have made just one playoff appearance during Justin Herbert’s time with the team, and they have not won a single playoff game since drafting him in 2020.

In an effort to remedy this, the Chargers relieved former coach Brandon Staley of his duties and replaced him with Jim Harbaugh. Kellen Moore was hired to be the team’s offensive coordinator, and his track record suggests that he could help Herbert have a big year.

Renaldo Hill will be the defensive coordinator this year, and he will have a number of top talents on hand. Defensive end Joey Bosa is one of the most feared rushers in the league while Derwin James is among the best defensive backs in the league. Khalil Mack still has something in the tank at linebacker, which should further help the defense keep the team in games.

Our defensive line, [I] didn’t know where that was exactly when I first got here, but it’s a strength. Really excited about it.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh (Source: Chargers.com)

Although the Chargers have not won a playoff game in recent years, they have been successful in the postseason in general. They have been to the playoffs 20 times in team history with eight of those appearances coming since 2004. They won an AFL championship in 1963 and won an AFC title in 1994.

They have a number of historic players including Kellen Winslow, Dan Fouts, and Lance Alworth. The teams of the 1980s played in what was called the Air Coryell offense, which incorporated a lot of the concepts seen today such as long passes and trying to score as quickly as possible.

Other key players include LaDainian Tomlinson and Junior Seau, and the Chargers are likely to induct Antonio Gates and Phillip Rivers into its Hall of Fame in the future. The team’s biggest rivals include the Raiders, Chiefs, and Broncos as they all play in the same division.

The Chargers have made over a dozen playoff appearances, and fans are hoping that they do the same thing this year.
