About the Tennessee Titans

After six straight winning seasons, including an AFC Championship Game appearance in 2019 and 11-5 and 12-5 campaigns in 2020 and 2021, the Titans fell to 7-10 and 6-11 marks the past two years failing to make the playoffs. They proceeded to make some significant changes in the offseason to try to turn that drop around.

Mike Vrabel is no longer Tennessee’s head coach as he was let go two days after last season ended. His replacement, Brian Callahan, was hired a couple of weeks later after having served as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator from 2019-23; this will be his first head coaching stint.

Offensive coordinator Nick Holz and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson are also new in their roles, having not performed in them anywhere in the NFL while Holz did his at the college level, at UNLV in 2022.

Meanwhile, long-time Titans running back Derrick Henry, who had been in Tennessee since 2016, was not resigned; he is now a Baltimore Raven. His position with the Titans will likely be filled by a joint effort from Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

Tennessee’s top wide receiver is expected to be Calvin Ridley, who joins the team from Jacksonville.

Will Levis should start the season at quarterback. He was selected in the second round of the 2023 draft although many were surprised that he was still available at that point, and he proved those prognosticators right as far as his on-field play went well. He started nine times and passed for 1,808 yards and eight touchdowns, four of this in his debut.

Defensively, the biggest change in the offseason was to the cornerback position. Joining returner Roger McCreary there will be L’Jarius Sneed (Chiefs), Chidobe Awuzie (Bengals), and Jarvis Brownlee Jr. (Louisville).

Other newcomers who are expected to help the Titans succeed include linebackers Kenneth Murray (Chargers) and Cedric Gray (North Carolina).

Kicker Nick Folk had an exceptional season in 2023, converting 97% of his field goal attempts, a team record.
