I watch Padres games through MLB.TV now that they’re no longer on Bally Sports San Diego. For the best viewing experience, I use Fubo, which offers MLB.TV alongside more than 150 live TV channels.
Bally Sports San Diego used to be the home of the Padres. But now it is, with sister station Bally Sports SoCal, the home of the Los Angeles Clippers and Anaheim Ducks.
In a hurry? Bally Sports San Diego is available from these two streaming services:
Fubo
Known for its outstanding sports coverage, Fubo’s 150+ live TV channels provide a broad selection that appeals to most people. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.
DIRECTV STREAM
The king of RSNs, this is the streaming service for MLB, NBA, and NHL fans with its Choice Plan. New customers get a 5-day free trial with DIRECTV STREAM.
If you can’t watch your favorite sports because of your location, get ExpressVPN to access the content you deserve.
Table Of Contents
Bally Sports San Diego lost most of its relevance when it lost its contract with the San Diego Padres. Although it still airs live games from the Los Angeles Clippers (NBA) and the Anaheim Ducks (NHL), these teams also come with Bally Sports SoCal, which subscribers will also get access to.
Still, Bally Sports San Diego may be the only way for you to watch the Clippers and Ducks. Regardless, Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM are the only services that will provide it.
Stream Bally Sports San Diego
There are two options for stream Bally Sports San Diego: Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM. With them, you can watch the vast majority of the games of the Los Angeles Clippers and Anaheim Ducks.
Fubo
Fubo (formerly FuboTV) is the least expensive choice to get Bally Sports San Diego. It offers a broad collection of 150+ live TV channels but also a ton of sports including CBS Sports Network (CBSSN), ESPN, and FS1. It also includes the networks beIN Sports and TUDN.
You can watch on up to 10 devices at home and two away. And you get unlimited cloud DVR storage with no expiration time.
Fubo’s pricing depends upon the number of RSNs included with the plan. For most subscribers, it will be $94.98/month.
- Plan Cost: $79.99/month
- RSN Fee:
- One RSN: $11.99/month — total: $91.98/month
- Two or More RSNs: $14.99/month — total: $94.98/month
Check out our Fubo review for more information.
DIRECTV STREAM
The second Bally Sports San Diego option is DIRECTV STREAM. But you will need to sign up for, at a minimum, its Choice plan ($108.99/month).
In addition to Bally Sports San Diego and other RSNs, it provides roughly 100 total channels including local network affiliates and nationally-focused sports channels such as ESPN, ESPNU, Fox Sports 1, and MLB Network.
However, you may want to make a bump up to its Ultimate plan ($119.99/month), especially if you are looking to watch San Diego State football and men’s basketball games. That is because CBSSN is available through the Ultimate plan, not Choice.
During the 2020-21 men’s basketball season, half of that team’s 28 games were broadcast on CBSSN as are seven of the school’s 12 regular-season football games in 2021.
Bally Sports+
Note: the FanDuel Sports Network streaming service has secured rights for the games of all covered NBA and NHL teams. But it has not secured rights to most MLB team games. Make sure that your teams will be available before signing up.
You can get Bally Sports San Diego through the direct-to-consumer streaming service, Bally Sports+. There’s only one plan and it allows subscribers to get whatever channels their location allows. But it does offer two payment plans:
Try FanDuel Sports Network Now
- Monthly: $19.99
- Yearly: $189.99.
Bally Sports+ offers support for a modest collection of streaming devices: Amazon Fire TV, Android mobile, Android TV-compatible TVs, iOS (iPhone, iPad) tvOS, and most web browsers (through BallySports.com).
Note that this is a very focused streaming service only including only channels from the Bally Sports network. Those wanting national live channels should supplement it with other services like Sling TV.
Also, Lakers and Galaxy fans who want Spectrum SportsNet should go with DIRECTV STREAM instead, since it provides that channel as well as the local Bally Sports channels. (Bally Sports+ deal details)
Alternatives to Bally Sports San Diego
The alternatives for Bally Sports San Diego depend on where you live and which teams you are interested in.
If you want to stream all the San Diego Padres games (which Bally Sports San Diego once aired), you need a subscription to MLB.tv ($24.99/mo). It doesn’t matter where you live in the US.
Clippers fans outside the area can similarly sign up for NBA League Pass. Note that both MLB.TV and NBA League Pass are available as add-ons with Fubo. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.

Out-of-market Ducks games are available with ESPN+.
If you are focused on SDSU sports events, Bally Sports San Diego would be of little use to you anyway. For these games, you need CBSSN, which you can get through most live TV streaming services, including Hulu + Live TV ($76.99/month).
Meanwhile, most of that school’s other major sporting events are shown on over-the-air CBS and on Fox Sports 1 while minor SDSU sports contests are usually streamed through Mountain West Network.
Conversely, San Diego Toreros sports events, including football and men’s basketball games, are mostly freely available online through WCC Network although a handful are on channels such as ESPN.
TVs and Other Streaming Devices for Bally Sports San Diego
You don’t need to huddle around a computer to stream Bally Sports San Diego. Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM support a wide variety of devices. You’ll have no trouble watching the Clippers and Ducks on your big-screen TV. And if you want to watch it on your smartphone, that’s easy too.
Probably the most popular way to stream on your TV is to use one of the “stick” devices like the Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku. Another popular way to watch is to cast from a phone or similar device using Chromecast that is either built into a TV or connected to it with an external device.
Both services also support iOS and Android phones and tablets.
They also support most Android TV and Samsung smart TV models directly. Or if you do want to huddle around your computer, you can watch on most web browsers. DIRECTV STREAM also has its own device, which can make switching from cable to streaming even easier.
Fubo supports a number of other smart TVs like the Hisense, LG, and Vizio brands. And it supports the Xbox gaming system.
Finally, you can use your DIRECTV STREAM account to log in to the Bally Sports App. It supports still more devices including other smart TVs in addition to the Xbox One.
What Is Bally Sports San Diego?
Bally Sports San Diego is a regional sports network (RSN) that was created in advance of the 2012 San Diego Padres season, essentially replacing 4SD (owned by Cox Communications), which had previously owned the broadcast rights to show San Diego Padres games locally.
What Sports Does Bally Sports San Diego Cover?
For 10 seasons, the Padres were this channel’s clear focus and the only San Diego-based team that it regularly showed games of. Unfortunately, near the beginning of 2023 MLB season, Bally Sports San Diego lost rights to the Padres.
Now, Bally Sports San Diego shares coverage of the Los Angeles Clippers and Anaheim Ducks with Bally Sports SoCal.
Bally Sports West is also available in California’s San Diego and Imperial Counties to DIRECTV STREAM subscribers. On this channel, you can watch games played by the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. Meanwhile, if you are looking for the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, Spectrum SportsNet, also available to DIRECTV STREAM customers here, is where you want to head.
However, if you are in America’s Finest City but do not cheer for the Padres and instead support the Los Angeles Dodgers or Angels, note that you cannot get those games on television here. But you can subscribe to MLB.TV ($24.99/mo) to watch their contests as the only team that you are blocked out from through that service is the Padres.
And, of course, the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers and Rams are available through other outlets, including Fox, NBC, CBS, ESPN, and NFL Network. You should receive all or nearly all of those teams’ games in San Diego since that city is no longer host to a franchise after the Chargers made the move north in 2017.
When considering if this channel is right for you, keep in mind that Bally Sports San Diego does not focus on college sports. Few of the college games that it does broadcast feature either the San Diego Toreros or the San Diego State Aztecs.
Other programming shown on this channel includes tennis, poker, beach volleyball, boxing, powerboat racing, golf, and horse racing.
Where Is Bally Sports San Diego Available?
Bally Sports San Diego is available in California’s San Diego and Imperial Counties and the southern portion of Arizona, including Yuma and Tucson.
Keep in mind that if you are in an area of Arizona that receives Bally Sports San Diego, the only other RSN that will accompany it will be Bally Sports Arizona and its coverage of Grand Canyon State-based major league sports teams. However, that does mean that you can watch the Diamondbacks if you want to.
In California, once you cross over into Orange County, you cannot access Bally Sports San Diego.
It is also available to subscribers in Hawaii (which is a particularly good location for RSNs, offering all the RSNs from southern and northern California there).
Is There Bally Sports San Diego Extra?
Unlike some other Bally Sports RSNs, there is no Bally Sports San Diego Extra (or Plus). But the channel shares coverage with Bally Sports SoCal and Bally Sports West.
Bally Sports San Diego Commentators
Don Orsillo and Mark Grant (sometimes with Tony Gwynn Jr) used to provide commentary for Padres games. Orsillo has moved to NASN.
The focus of Bally Sports SoCal programming is its series of live games with the Clippers and Ducks. These include pregame and postgame shows featuring news, analysis, interviews, and such.
Los Angeles Clippers games are presented by Brian Sieman (play-by-play) along with Mike Fratello, Don MacLean, Corey Maggette, Jim Jackson, Kristina Pink, and Jaime Maggio.
John Ahlers does play-by-play for the Ducks along with Brian Hayward, Aly Lozoff, Mike Pomeranz.

Wrapping Up
If you would like to keep up to date on the Clippers and Ducks, getting Bally Sports San Diego is a must.
Fubo is our top choice for streaming Bally Sports San Diego. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial. But Lakers fans may want to go up to DIRECTV STREAM. New customers get a 5-day free trial with DIRECTV STREAM.
FAQs
What happened to Fox Sports San Diego?
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) declared that Walt Disney’s acquisition of Fox Sports Network violated antitrust laws because of its existing ownership of ESPN. All the associated RSNs, including Fox Sports San Diego, were sold to Sinclair Broadcast Group and Entertainment Studios (as Diamond Sports Group). Fox Sports San Diego was rebranded as Bally Sports San Diego.
What can I do if I’m not in Bally Sports San Diego’s coverage area?
Fortunately for those not in Bally Sports San Diego’s coverage area, you can watch Clippers games with NBA League Pass and Ducks games on ESPN+. Meanwhile, the vast majority of San Diego Toreros and San Diego State Aztecs games are shown on broadcast outlets that are available nationally anyway.
