Northwestern Wildcats vs Utah Utes

The 2023 Las Vegas Bowl features the Northwestern Wildcats of the Big Ten Conference and the Utah Utes of the Pac-12 conference.

The Wildcats came in second in the West Division of the Big Ten — and fifth overall. They ended the season with a 7-5 record — 5-4 in-conference. The Utes also managed fifth place with an 8-4 (5-4 in-conference) record. But both teams competed in extremely strong conferences.

Northwestern Wildcats Personnel

David Braun was hired this year to be the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator. But after the firing of Pat Fitzgerald, he was made head coach. With him is offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian.

Despite some injuries, quarterback Ben Bryant will be leading the Wildcats’ offensive. With him are running back Cam Porter, wide receivers Cam Johnson, Bryce Kirtz, and AJ Henning, and tight end Thomas Gordon.

On defense are linebackers Bryce Gallagher, Xander Mueller, and Kenny Soares Jr, defensive backs Theran Johnson, Devin Turner, Rod Heard II, Garnett Hollis Jr, and Coco Azema, and linemen Richie Hagarty, Jaylen Pate, Aidan Hubbard DL, and Carmine Bastone.

Utah Utes Personnel

Kyle Whittingham is in his 19th season as head coach of the Utes with a career record of 162-78 and 100-60 in-conference. With him are offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig and defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley — both of which have been with the team almost a decade.

Quarterback Bryson Barnes leads the Utes’ offensive with running backs Ja’Quinden Jackson and Jaylon Glover, wide receivers Devaughn Vele, Money Parks, and Mikey Matthews, and tight end Landen King.

On defense there are linebackers Levani Damuni, Karene Reid, and Lander Barton, defensive backs Zemaiah Vaughn, Tao Johnson, Cole Bishop, and Sione Vaki, and linemen Jonah Elliss, Connor O’Toole, Van Fillinger, Keanu Tanuvasa, and Logan Fano.
