The Winnipeg Jets are one of the newest teams in the NHL, having joined the league back in 1999. At that time, they were known as the Atlanta Thrashers. In 2011, they moved to Winnipeg and became the Jets. They are not directly related to the previous Winnipeg Jets, who were in the NHL from 1972 through 1996.
