The 2023 Boca Raton Bowl features two middling teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the American Athletic Conference (AAC). The Bulls ended the season 6-6 (4-4 in-conference). The Orange did the same but with only 2-6 in-conference.
South Florida Bulls Personnel
Alex Golesh is in his first season as the Bulls’ head coach. Although the 6-6 record doesn’t sound impressive, it is the best the team has done since 2018. The last couple of years have been extremely weak. With him are offensive coordinator Joel Gordon and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando.
Heading the offense is quarterback Byrum Brown. With him are running back Nay’Quan Wright, wide receivers Sean Atkins and Naiem Simmons, and tight end Weston Wolff.
On defense are linebackers Jhalyn Shuler and DJ Gordon IV, defensive backs Tavin Ward, Daquan Evans, Braxton Clark, Aamaris Brown, and Logan Berryhill, and linemen Jonathan Ross, Rashad Cheney, Tavin Ward, DJ Harris, and Tramel Logan.
Syracuse Orange Personnel
Head Coach Dino Babers was fired at the end of this season and new coach Fran Brown will lead the team in the Boca Raton Bowl. With him are offensive coordinator Jason Beck and defensive coordinator Rocky Long.
Quarterback Garrett Shrader leads the offensive with running back LeQuint Allen, wide receivers Damien Alford, Umari Hatcher, and Donovan Brown, and tight end Dan Villari.
On defense are linebackers Marlowe Wax, Derek McDonald, and Stefon Thompson, defensive backs Justin Barron, Jeremiah Wilson, Jason Simmons Jr, Isaiah Johnson, and Alijah Clark, and linemen Kevon Darton, Caleb Okechukwu, and Kevin Jobity Jr.
