The 2023 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl pits the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and Sun Belt Conference. Interestingly, however, both teams this year were together in Conference USA just two years ago.

The Marshall Thundering Herd had a poor regular season finishing second from last in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference. They ended the season with a 6-6 record overall (3-5 in-conference). This will be their first Frisco Bowl appearance.

The UTSA Roadrunners had an impressive season ending with a 8-4 record overall. A 7-1 in-conference record saw them finish third in the American Athletic Conference. They last appeared in the Frisco Bowl two years ago.

The Frisco Bowl is the only postseason appearance of both teams this year since neither qualified for their conference championship game.

This is Charles Huff’s third season as the head coach of the Thundering Herd. He is assisted by Jason Semore who serves as the defensive coordinator. New hire Seth Doege is the offensive coordinator.

Jeff Traylor is in his fourth season as head coach of the Roadrunners. He is supported by offensive coordinator Justin Burke and defensive coordinator Jess Loepp.

The offense is led by quarterback Frank Harris. Kevorian Barnes, Robert Henry, and Rocko Griffin are the running backs. Wide receivers are Joshua Cephus, Tykee Ogle-Kellogg, and Devin McQuin. Oscar Cardenas plays tight end.
