The 2023 Gasparilla Bowl features a match between Big 12 Conference’s UCF Knights against Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Georgia Tech will be making their first Gasparilla Bowl appearance while UCF will be making their sixth appearance on gameday.

The Knights managed a 9th-place finish in the Big 12 Conference – their first football season as part of the Big 12 (now the Big 14). They ended the season with a 6-6 (3-6 in-conference) record.

The Yellow Jackets had a good season finishing fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They had a 5-3 in-conference record and a 6-6 overall record.

UCF Knights Personnel

This is Gus Malzahn’s third season as head coach of the Knights. He calls on the support of defensive coordinator Addison Williams and offensive coordinator Darin Hinshaw as his aides.

The Knights offense is led by quarterback John Rhys Plumlee. They also have running backs RJ Harvey and Johnny Richardson, wide receivers Javon Baker, Kobe Hudson, and Xavier Townsend, and tight ends Alec Holler.

UCF Football’s defense has linebackers Jason Johnson and Walter Yates III, defensive backs Corey Thornton, Nikai Martinez, Demari Henderson, Jireh Wilson, Brandon Adams, Quadric Bullard, and Decorian Patterson, and defensive linemen Lee Hunter, Tre’Mon Morris-Brash, Nikai Martinez, Malachi Lawrence, and Josh Caliscar.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Personnel

Brent Key finished his first full season as head coach of the Yellow Jackets this year, after serving as interim head coach last season (following the dismissal of Geoff Collins). Offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer are the assistants.

On offense are quarterback Haynes King, running back Jamal Haynes, wide receivers Eric Singleton Jr, Malik Rutherford, Dominick Blaylock, and Christian Leary, and tight end Dylan Leonard.

The Yellow Jackets’ defense includes linebackers Kyle Efford, Paul Moala, Andre White, and Trenilyas Tatum, defensive backs Jaylon King, LaMiles Brooks, Clayton Powell-Lee, and KJ Wallace, and defensive linemen Kyle Kennard, D’Quan Douse, and Eddie Kelly.
