The Purdue Boilermakers are one of the top teams in the vaunted Big Ten college basketball conference. The team, located in West Lafayette, IN, is one of the most storied programs in college basketball to never have won an NCAA championship.

In recent years the men’s team has been playing well under head coach Matt Painter and the women’s team has made the tournament six times since 2011.

The best place to watch Purdue basketball on both the men’s and women’s side is the Big Ten Network (BTN). There are also a few on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and ESPNU.

Some of the bigger preseason tournaments and some of the more important conference games will show up on ESPN and ESPN2 as well.

The Indiana-Purdue rivalry games, especially when both teams are good, will often be aired on one of the major networks like CBS or ESPN.

Streaming Purdue Basketball

Almost all Purdue men’s basketball games air on major channels. A much smaller number of women’s games are too. These streaming services offer most if not all of them:

If you are a fan of the Boilermakers women’s team, you really need to sign up for the Big Ten streaming service B1G+. It provides major access to Big Ten sports that are neglected by live TV channels.

Also, a number of games are featured on FloHoops — the basketball channel of FloSports. It is a great streaming service for serious sports fans with a couple dozen channels.

Each streaming service comes with a cloud DVR. Vidgo is kind of an exception. It offers a 90-day trial of its 20-hour cloud DVR. After that, you need to upgrade to its Premier plan.

You can also stream on multiple devices at once — good for large households. Most allow 3 screens at a time. But Fubo offers 10 and DIRECTV STREAM offers unlimited.

You can also use most streaming devices with these services. These include: Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, and web browsers. You can also watch on mobile devices like the iPhone and Android smartphones. And many support different smart TVs and gaming systems.

Purdue Basketball

Purdue University’s inaugural season of collegiate basketball was the 1896-97 season giving the school approximately 125 years of basketball tradition. Purdue was one of the first members of the Big Ten Conference, joining in 1896, and they have the record for Big Ten regular season championships with 24.

The men’s basketball team has played their home games at Mackey Arena since 1967 and the women’s team started thereafter its inception as an intercollegiate sport in 1975.

Mackey Arena took the place of Lambert Fieldhouse and it seats up to 14,804. Mackey Arena is known as one of the loudest in the nation because of its aluminum roof. In 1997 the arena’s floor was renamed “Keady Court” in honor of Gene Keady, one of the best coaches in the school’s history.

Purdue’s biggest rivalry is with their in-state counterpart the Indiana Hoosiers. Purdue’s home of West Lafayette, IN is about a two-hour drive from Bloomington, the home of the Hoosiers, and this rivalry is heated. In fact, behind Duke-UNC and Kentucky-Louisville, there may not be a bigger, more important college basketball rivalry than the one between Purdue and Indiana. Purdue leads the series on the men’s side 124-89.

Purdue Men’s Basketball

Purdue has never won an NCAA basketball national championship, but they have been to numerous NCAA tournaments, two Final Fours, and they played for the title in 1969. The school won the Helms Athletic Foundation National Championship in 1932 prior to the establishment of the NCAA.

Their 2019 team reached the Elite Eight before falling to the Virginia Cavaliers. Purdue has had two No 1 overall picks in the NBA draft with Joe Barry Carroll in 1980 and Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson in 1994.

Purdue has had some incredible coaches over the years including Ward Lambert from 1917-1946, Gene Keady from 1980-2005, and their current coach Matt Painter who has been there since 2005.

The 2022-23 Boilermakers have one of the best players in the nation in star center Zach Edey who leads the team in scoring (22.2), rebounds (13.0), and blocks (2.3) while guards Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith are the next two leading scorers. Mason Gillis and Caleb Furst round out the starting five while Ethan Morton is their top six-man.

In 1999, the women’s team brought home the school’s lone NCCA national championship, finished second in 2001, and made the Final Four one other year in 1994.
