About the Chicago Bears

The Bears were one of the original NFL teams starting back in 1920. They’ve played their home games at Soldier Field since 1971, which means they’ve played in both the old stadium and the renovated one (2002-2003).

Bears Personnel

The Bears are coming off a 7-10 season that was good enough to keep Matt Eberflus around in Chicago as the team’s head coach. However, the roster underwent a reset on offense as Justin Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a sixth-round draft pick. The team would also sign receiver Keenan Allen and draft Rome Odunze with the team’s second pick in the first round of the 2024 draft. Quarterback Caleb Williams was drafted first overall to replace Fields and is expected to be the starter this year.

Eric Washington was hired from Buffalo to be the defensive coordinator this year. However, it’s yet to be seen if he will be calling the plays or if Eberflus will continue to do so. He began calling the plays partway through last season after former defensive coordinator Alan Williams was fired after engaging in “inappropriate” conduct.

Shane Waldron will take over as offensive coordinator after spending the last three seasons in Seattle as their passing game coordinator. He will be tasked with overseeing the development of an offense that will likely hinge on running backs D’Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert until Williams gets up to speed.

Bears History

Coming into the season, the Bears had won a single championship after the merger, which came in 1985. That season, the Bears unleashed the 46 defense, which took offensive coordinators almost a full season to adjust to. Chicago last appeared in the Super Bowl in 2006 when they lost to the Indianapolis Colts. That game featured eight combined turnovers from both teams as the contest was played in rainy conditions.

Chicago has had several notable players throughout its history such as Brian Urlacher, Walter Peyton and Dick Butkus. The team’s biggest rival is the Green Bay Packers as the two teams have played each other since 1920. In addition, the Bears have a historic rivalry with Detroit that began in 1930.
