Celebrating its rich history of over 150 years, the Belmont Stakes stands as the eldest among the three renowned Triple Crown races. Since 1867, this prestigious event has found its home at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, for an impressive span of 112 years. The racecourse and its stakes bear the name of August Belmont, a prominent New York financier and equestrian.
This year marks the special commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Secretariat’s legendary triumph in the 1973 Belmont Stakes. This iconic victory not only earned Secretariat the Belmont Stakes title, but also secured him the coveted Triple Crown.
Similar to the Kentucky Derby held at Churchill Downs, the Belmont Stakes welcomes three-year-old thoroughbreds to its challenging track. Known as “The Test of the Champion” or “The Test of Champions,” this race earns its reputation due to its demanding length of 1 1/2 miles—the longest course among the Triple Crown races. By comparison, the Derby measures 1 1/4 miles, while the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico covers a modest 1 3/16 miles.

The Belmont Stakes used to be on NBC and Peacock, like its sister-races the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. But broadcast agreements change, and now the third leg and final round of horse racing’s Triple Crown is on Fox Sports.

You can watch the Fox portion of the broadcast with an HD antenna, but if you want to settle in for the whole day, you’ll need a pay TV provider FS1 and FS2.
