Texas vs Washington

The experts predict that the Texas Longhorns will beat the Washington Huskies in this year’s Alamo Bowl.

Quarterback Comparison

Washington’s quarterback, Michael Penix Jr., led the nation with 4,354 passing yards and threw an impressive 29 touchdowns in 12 games. He led the team to a record of 10-2 and finished 8th in the Heisman Trophy voting. Although he is primarily a pocket passer, he did manage four rushing touchdowns this season as well.

His counterpart for Texas, Quinn Ewer, threw 14 touchdown passes in nine games this season, as well as running one in himself on the way to the team’s 8-4 finish. He has a lot to prove in this game, as he’ll look to show that he deserves to keep the starting job next season as a senior when he’ll have to compete with Arch Manning, the nephew of famous quarterbacks Peyton and Eli.

What to Expect

The defense will be key for both teams in this matchup, with Texas having a decided advantage on that front. Washington gave up 316 points to their opponents this season, while Texas’ defense only allowed 254. With two explosive quarterbacks, the defensive advantage may be the deciding factor.

Texas will also have to contend with missing three of their star players, running backs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, as well as linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. Although it has not been officially announced, the three are expected to skip the contest as they prepare for this year’s NFL draft, where all three players are expected to be picked, possibly even in the first round.

One key factor in the game will be Ewer’s desire to make a statement game (coupled with the possibility of turnovers if he starts to force throws). Other major components of victory are the defenses, and the ability of Texas’ backups to replace their three missing superstars.
