Jackson State vs North Carolina Central

Although FCS teams have a national playoff to aspire towards, similar to the ones that exist at the Division II and III levels, some teams and conferences do not take part in it. This includes the Mid-Eastern Conference (MEAC) and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) as their champions instead head to the Cricket Celebration Bowl.

And this will be quite an intriguing matchup. It features the first broadcast television appearance of Jackson State star cornerback Travis Hunter. Hunter shocked the college football world at the end of the recruiting season, turning down a scholarship at Florida State to play for NFL Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders at Jackson State. In doing so, Hunter became the first five-star recruit to ever sign for an FCS program.

This will be Coach Prime’s last year of Jackson State football before he goes to coach the Colorado Buffaloes. But grabbing much of the attention during this showdown will be JSU quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son. Shedeur and NC Central’s Davius Richard are widely considered the two best quarterbacks in this season’s HBCU football.

The Tigers have cruised to a 12-0 record as only one of those contests was a one-score game, a 22-14 home win over Campbell on October 22. The team has also played in front of large crowds all football season, averaging 44,390 fans at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, an impressive figure for an FCS program. This is the second year in a row they’ve won the SWAC championship game.

Meanwhile, North Carolina Central is not showing up to just make up the numbers, and the conference championship winners bring a 9-2 record into this contest. However, the Eagles will be firm underdogs, most notably because one of those setbacks was a 48-18 loss to the same Campbell football team that JSU beat. NCCU’s other defeat was a 26-24 loss to South Carolina State. Both of those results came on the road.

A few of NCCU’s best players this season have been Robert Mitchell, who was named the MEAC Lineman of the Year, quarterback Davius Richard, defensive back Khalil Baker, and punter Juan Velarde. Also, head coach Trei Oliver was named MEAC Coach of the Year three days after the Eagles completed their regular season with a 22-20 win at Tennessee Tech.

The Cricket Celebration Bowl, which will be played on December 17 in Atlanta, was first held in 2015. Jackson State’s first appearance was a year ago, a 31-10 loss to South Carolina State, while North Carolina Central also has one appearance; its came in 2016 and resulted in a 10-9 loss to Grambling State.

How to Watch the Cricket Celebration Bowl Online Without Cable

Since the Cricket Celebration Bowl airs on ABC, you can most likely watch it for free. You just need to get an antenna and set it up. Assuming you live relatively near an ABC affiliate, you’ll be able to watch the game in crystal clear HD.

If you live too far from a transmission tower or just don’t want to bother with an antenna, you can stream ABC with a number of streaming services. Our top two choices are FuboTV and Sling TV, but read on below for details.

Streaming services are great alternatives to cable and satellite. They provide all the same channels (although as with different cable and satellite companies, there are differences between services as to exactly what channels are provided). But streaming services offer more flexibility — usually with a lot more features.

The streaming revolution has had an impact, however. Cable prices have come down to match streaming to a large extent. But in order to get these prices, you need to sign up for long (usually two-year) contracts.

Features like cloud DVR and streaming on multiple devices are also standard with streaming services.
