XFL is a professional football league. It comprises of 8 teams. The season typically runs from Feb to April. The league was founded in 2002 by the WWE executive Vince McMahon with an aim to bring a fun twist to the regular football game. It was to have more entertaining features. Unlike the NFL, the XFL owns all the 8 teams.

During that inaugural season, the XFL became a hit but just weeks into its opening, ratings plunged and the league rain into losses. The season was shyped and the anticipation was enormous. Everyone looked forward to it. The game modified the rules of football to increase the excitement but it ended up heavily mimicking professional wrestling. As the season came to an end, some of the players ended up signing over to NFL and other partners retreated.

Almost 20 years later, the XFL is being revived. In 2018, Vince McMahon sold his some of shares at WWE to fund the incarnation of the XFL. The new season was to start in January or February 2020.

McMahon stated that the XFL will be coming back with a new set of rules and a fresh start. He stated that players with a criminal history will not be signed up. He also stated that there will be no social and political issues during the games by the players. Only five weeks into the start of the season in 2020, the league came to a half because of the COVID pandemic.

The league later filed for bankruptcy on April 13, 2020. In the same year in August, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia teamed up to buy the XFL through a consortium for $15 million.

On the other hand, the XFL brought a lot of change in football game broadcasting. The NFL currently uses sky cams, records the sound when the players collide, and even permits fans to see what happens in the locker rooms.

The next season is set to start in 2023 and the first game is set for Saturday, Feb 8, the next weekend after the Super Bowl. The players are presently in training.
