The Monte-Carlo Masters is a major event on the ATP Tour calendar — one of the nine yearly ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. The top men’s tennis players from around the world attend. And only the top-line events take place so you won’t want to miss a minute. Thankfully, you don’t need to spend a lot to do so.

The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters takes place in April each year — usually during the second week. It doesn’t get quite the attention as the the Grand Slam Tournaments — Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open — because of its focus on men’s singles and doubles. But it’s a very important tennis tournament.

How to Watch the Monte-Carlo Masters on TV

The Monte-Carlo Masters is one of the increasing number of important tournaments that is broadcast solely on the Tennis Channel. It has complete broadcast rights in the United States. During the event, there will be complete coverage on the channel including 8-hour blocks from the event itself.

Of course, the Tennis Channel is essential for all tennis fans. NBC, CBS, and ESPN all provide primary coverage of the biggest events. But even then, Tennis Channel provides news and additional coverage — especially of the less-popular matches.

Everything You Need to Know About the Monte-Carlo Masters

The 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters is the 118th edition of the event. It has been played yearly since 1896 with pauses for World War I, World War II, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event has taken place at the Monte Carlo Country Club since 1928. Despite its name, the club is located just over the border of Monaco in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France.

The tournament is notable in that it only includes men’s events — and only singles and doubles. However, the tournament did feature a women’s singles event for most of its history. But there have been no women’s events since 1982 and it doesn’t look like this will change.

Like the French Open, the Monte-Carlo Masters is competed on clay courts with their high bounces and more deliberate play.

The player to most dominate this tournament is Spaniard Rafael Nadal. He won the tournament eight years in a row starting in 2005. Most recently, he won his 11th championship in 2018. His closest competitor during the Open Era is Björn Borg with a total of 3 wins.

2023 Monte-Carlo Masters Results

Although Novak Djokovic went into the tournament with the top seed — meaning he skipped the first round — he lost to Lorenzo Musetti in the third round. The number 5 and 6 seeds, Andrey Rublev and Holger Rune, made the finals with Rublev becoming champion.

Romain Arneodo and Sam Weissborn had a great run from wild card all the way to the championship game. But they were soundly defeated by Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek.
