The FIA’s top racing series is back with the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, set to take place at Albert Park in Melbourne. Albert Park Circuit had some improvements made to it ahead of the 2022 AusGP. To enable overtaking, several corners were re-engineered and expanded to create additional racing lines. Albert Park becomes the only F1 circuit that has three activation zones because of the fourth DRS zone added between turns 8 and 9.

Melbourne has hosted the Australian GP since 1996. Before that, Adelaide hosted the GP from 1985 to 1995. Its contract to host the Grand Prix was due to expire in 2025, but the contract has been renewed, and we can expect to have the GP happening in Melbourne until 2035. The Australian Grand Prix Corporation has confirmed that the agreement includes that Formula 2 and Formula 3 races will be integrated into the race weekend schedule. Other categories, like Supercars and the Porsche Carrera Cup will also be taking place this year.

The Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2023 made history as the most attended sporting event ever in Melbourne, attracting 444,631 spectators for the weekend. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the race, with Lewis Hamilton in second and Fernando Alonso finishing third. The event recorded three red flags, the most in a Grand Prix.

2024 Australian Grand Prix Schedule

The Rolex Australian GP is the third round of the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship, taking place from March 21 to 24. The event will take place at Melbourne’s 5.278-kilometer Albert Park Circuit, and American viewers may struggle to watch it live due to the significant time difference. Nonetheless, ESPN2 replays the main Grand Prix race later on Sunday.
