Where to Watch Marseille

Do you have access to beIN Sports? If the answer is yes, you will most likely be able to watch Marseille play many of its matches via its channels and beIN Sports Connect, its primary streaming service.

US

US-based OM fans can in fact watch their club play Ligue 1 contests through beIN Sports’ offerings.

Check out these streaming services to watch all the Ligue 1 matches featuring PSG:

  • Fubo (formerly FuboTV): This is the only streaming service that allows you to watch all the beIN Sports and TUDN channels right in its app. In total, get about 150 channels in its base plan, which starts at $79.99/mo. You also get 1000 hours of cloud DVR and are able to stream on up to 10 devices at the same time. (Fubo review)
  • Fanatiz: If sports is your thing, you can’t go wrong with service for just $9.99/mo. (Fanatiz review)
  • Sling TV: Sling offers many ways to get beIN Sports. The cheapest is with Sling Orange along with the World Sports Mini but there are 12 other options. You also get ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, and The Disney Channel. (Sling TV review, Ligue 1 guide)
  • Vidgo: Get beIN Sports Connect with this plan for $69.99/mo. A limited DVR comes with the premium plan. (Vidgo review)
  • YouTube TV: Get limited access to beIN Sports with its Sports Plus add-on for $83.99/mo total.

However, to see it take part in other competitions, you will need to head elsewhere. For example, the team’s Coupe de France round of 16 and quarterfinal matches were broadcast on Fox Soccer Plus and FS2, and you need to head to Paramount+ to watch Marseille take on Europe in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, or Europa Conference League.

You can live stream on most devices that are currently in use. There is some variability from service to service. But all of them support Amazon Fire TV, Android mobile devices, Android TV-based smart TVs, Apple TV, Chromecast, iOS, Roku, and web browsers.

Elsewhere

Not only is beIN Sports the place to go in many parts of the world to watch OM take part in Ligue 1 matches, but it is also where UEFA Champions League coverage may be found in many of those same countries.

As for English-speaking nations such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France matches are available through beIN Sports, but you need to head elsewhere for OM Champions League coverage – e.g. DAZN (Canada), Stan Sport (Australia), or Spark Sport (New Zealand).

Those in the UK are one of the exceptions to that general rule. BT Sport is where Brits go to watch OM play in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Coupe de France coverage is rare here, however.

Most of the countries that offer extensive Marseille match coverage on beIN Sports are in Asia and Africa. Examples include Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco.

Olympique de Marseille

OM has sponsored a men’s soccer team since 1900, which was a year after this multi-sport club was founded. In fact, it used to oversee a wide variety of sports teams, but that has since been reduced to men’s and women’s soccer and judo.

Although its men’s soccer team has been amongst the top Ligue 1 sides recently, finishing in the top five every season since 2016-17, it has been more than a decade since its players experienced a trophy lift. That last occurred in league play in 2009-10, the team’s ninth French championship and first since 1991-92, which was the fourth of four titles in a row.

The club has also won the Coupe de France on 10 occasions although the most recent one was claimed back in 1988-89.

A UEFA Champions League was won in 1992-93, when a controversial 1-0 win over AC Milan in the final sealed that trophy lift. Actually, the controversy was indirect, the result of a match-fixing scandal that was related to a Ligue 1 contest that was played prior to the UCL final. That was partially intended to ensure that OM was rested and uninjured prior to the game with the Italian side.

Marseille has also won the UEFA Europa League, which was formerly known as the UEFA Cup, in 1998-99, 2003-04, and 2017-18.

Those who are helping lead the club towards what they hope will be Ligue 1 glory in 2022-23 include Dimitri Payet, Cengiz Under, Alexis Sanchez, Jordan Veretout, Matteo Guendouzi, and Pau Lopez.

OM’s rivalry with PSG is heated for a number of reasons, one being the overall rivalry, not just in a sports sense, that exists between the capital area and the provincial south. Also, Paris and Marseille are France’s two largest cities.

The Stade Velodrome has been Olympique de Marseille’s home facility since 1937. It has received two significant renovations, one in advance of the 1998 World Cup and the other ahead of Euro 2016. The venue played host to World Cup matches in 1938 and 1998 and Euro contests in 1960, 1984, and 2016.

Marseille in Ligue 1

Ligue 1 is France’s top league, and Olympique de Marseille has been a member of it since its 1996-97 season. It was relegated for administrative reasons following its 1993-94 campaign and spent two years in the second tier before going back up. The last time that it was relegated on the basis of its play was in 1979-80, and it took four seasons on that occasion before OM got itself promoted back.

For the 2022-23 season, Ligue 1 consists of 20 teams playing 38 matches apiece. However, that will change in 2023-24 as 18 sides will be a part of the competition that year, playing 34 times each.

Wrapping Up

Olympique de Marseille has been one of France’s largest clubs for decades, and that is still the case today. In fact, OM is still the only French side to have won the UEFA Champions League.

You can most likely catch all or a significant amount of the action wherever you are. Le Classique showdowns with Paris Saint-Germain should be especially accessible.

Fubo is our top pick for Marseille action. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.
