What You Need to Know About Sling TV
Sling TV is one of the biggest live TV streaming services. What we most like about it is that it is distinct from cable companies. DIRECTV STREAM (AT&T TV), FuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, and YouTube TV are all great services but they don’t provide the kind of flexibility that Sling does.
Sling TV offers what is essentially a la carte cable TV. You sign up with a small base plan and add the TV channels and features you want. But the base plans themselves are pretty great. For example, they provide 50 hours of cloud DVR storage.

2023 Australian Open Details
The first major tennis tournament of the year is the Australian Open. It is also the first Grand Slam. It occurs every January at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.
This tournament was started 1905 as the Australasian Championships. It became the Australian Open in 1927 and has been one of the biggest tournaments in the world since then.
Like all major tennis tournaments, the Australian Open features a lot of matches occurring at the same time. As a result, coverage is spread out over a number of TV channels: ESPN, ESPN2, and the Tennis Channel. ESPN, however, will likely cover the finals.
Here is the schedule for the 2023 Australian Open:
- Sun Jan 15 : First Round
- Mon Jan 16 : First Round
- Tue Jan 17 : Second Round
- Wed Jan 18 : Second Round
- Thu Jan 19 : Third Round
- Fri Jan 20 : Third Round
- Sat Jan 21 : Round of 16
- Sun Jan 22 : Round of 16
- Mon Jan 23 TBD: Quarterfinals
- Tue Jan 24 TBD: Quarterfinals
- Wed Jan 25 TBD: Women’s Semifinals
- Thu Jan 26 TBD: Men’s Semifinals
- Fri Jan 27 TBD: Women’s Singles Finals
- Sat Jan 28 TBD: Men’s Singles Finals.

Sling TV is not just a good choice for watching the Australian Open. You can use it to watch tennis throughout the year. This includes all the Grand Slam tournaments:
- January 15: Australian Open (ESPN, Tennis)
- May 28: French Open (NBC, Tennis)
- July 3: Wimbledon (ESPN)
- August 28: US Open (ESPN)
All of these channels are available from Sling TV.
How to Get Australian Open Channels With Sling TV
To follow the Australian Open, you really need ESPN, ESPN2, and the Tennis Channel. You get the first two (along with ESPN3, which includes all of ABC Sports) with Sling Orange for $40.00/mo.
To get Tennis Channel, you need the Sports Extra add-on for $11/mo. It gives you 14 more channels including ACC Network, SEC Network, ESPNU, beIN Sports, MLB Network, NBA TV, and NHL Network.
To maximize your tennis coverage, you will want to add NBCUniversal channels, so subscribers may want to combine it with Sling Blue.
- Sling Orange ($40.00/mo): ESPN, ESPN2
- Sling Orange + Blue ($55.00/mo): ESPN, ESPN2, NBC, USA
- Sports Extra ($11/mo or $15/mo): Tennis Channel.
Tennis fans are well serviced by the Orange plan because so much tennis is aired on ESPN channels. The other major part of its lineup is The Disney Channel. Otherwise, it mostly shares channels like Comedy Central and TNT with Sling Blue.
The Blue plan is not so great in terms of tennis. But it’s a great service for other sports and general viewing and the only way to get local channels. For example, golf fans will need it. So will football fans, because you can only get NFL RedZone with it. It also includes Fox channels including FS1.
For all the details about these plans, see our guide on Sling TV Packages.
Sling TV Device Support for Live Sports
Sling TV is also one of the top services when it comes to streaming devices. It offers apps for pretty much anything you can think of. Check out our Sling TV Devices guide for more information on its support for TV devices, smart TVs, and gaming consoles. But you will probably find one or more devices you already own in this limited list:
- Amazon Fire TV (Firestick)
- Android Mobile
- Android TV
- Apple TV
- Chromecast
- iOS (iPhone, iPad)
- Roku
- Web browsers (Windows, Mac)
- Xbox One
